Prof Alex Whelan Lecture: “You are your immune system”
Can you think yourself well?
This remains unproven, but there is growing evidence that we can influence how well our immune systems work.
Prof Alex Whelan, above, is chief medical scientist at St James’s Hospital in Dublin and a senior lecturer in immunology at Trinity College. In an Irish Times/ RDS Science Today lecture entitled You Are Your Immune System, he will discuss new evidence of a surprisingly strong link between the immune system and other biological systems, including the senses.
Prof Whelan is this year’s recipient of the Irish Society of Immunology’s annual award. It honours an Irish immunologist whose work has made a significant contribution to human health.
